The recession may well be causing a perception disconnect between employers and their
workforce, according to new research from Monster.com and Human Capital Institute*. The study reveals a dramatic difference in how employers and workers perceive the impact of the current recession, potentially leading to employers facing mass talent drains as the labor market begins to turn. Furthermore, employers are vastly overrating the morale of their employees with 84% of those surveyed believing that their workforce is content to simply have a job while only 58% of workers actually feel that way.

Does a College Education Prepare You to find a Job?

This summer I am doing an internship for a placement company that deals with a lot
of interviewing and hiring potential employees for Fortune 1000 companies. This
fall I will be entering my senior year in college and will receive my business marketing
degree. How will I prepare to get a job after a four year of an expensive education? In
just a few weeks of working, I have come to the conclusion that college does prepare
you to work in a business world, but it doesn’t prepare the student on how to apply,
interview or get a job. In college I have learned all about general business theories,
accounting, marketing strategies, and studied business cases. I am grateful for the
great professors that taught me about business, but colleges need to rethink how
they can prepare us to apply, interview, behave, dress and close on our first job out
of college. When we apply for our first career job fresh out of college, the interviews
process makes me feel like trying to ride a bike for the first time

Who Needs a Talent Agent?

The job of a talent agent includes marketing and promoting various people that have specific talents in acting, modeling or both. Many talent agents work exclusively with actors or actresses, while others work with models of different ages or may focus on just children or just adults. A talent agent works closely with the talent to help them learn the various skills needed to land the job that they are auditioning for. This means that the talent agent should have a good background in the type of career the talent is interested in pursuing.
